The Art Behind Shikha Organics — By Vani Manjunath

Shikha Organics is deeply personal to me. It is a journey rooted in family, farming, food, and the quiet strength of women working together with intention.

I am Vani Manjunath, the founder and owner of Shikha Organics. What began as a simple desire to bring authentic, farm-fresh food to the community has grown into a women-led enterprise built on care, collaboration, and purpose. While I lead this initiative, Shikha Organics is truly brought to life by an all-female team we proudly call the Shikha Girls. Their dedication, creativity, and commitment shape every aspect of our work—from decision-making to daily execution—and together we celebrate the power of women supporting women.

At the heart of Shikha Organics lies Punyabhoomi Orchards, our family-run farm in Hunsur. The farm is lovingly nurtured by my brother-in-law, Dr. Srinivasa Shivakumar, an organic farming enthusiast who has spent years cultivating nutmeg, avocado, pepper, sweet potato, and more using entirely natural and sustainable practices. Our close connection to the land ensures that everything we create begins with integrity, freshness, and respect for nature.

For many years, only the mace and nutmeg seed were used, while the rind of the nutmeg fruit—the pericarp—was discarded as farm waste. That changed when Dr. Shivakumar and his wife, Kasturi, experimented with pickling the pericarp. What started as a small kitchen experiment soon became a much-loved favourite among family, friends, and visitors. Their encouragement planted a new idea in my heart: to transform this homemade specialty into a small yet meaningful business.

At Shikha Organics, I believe deeply in a hands-on, shared way of working. Though I am the owner, I am involved at every stage of the process—from washing and cutting the nutmeg rind to preparing, seasoning, and perfecting our recipes. This involvement reflects our philosophy: every jar we make should carry the warmth of a home kitchen and the honesty of mindful effort.

Over time, we have refined our craft and expanded our offerings to include nutmeg pickles, thokku, marmalade-style jams, and our signature nutmeg–sweet potato fusion. What began as a family innovation has now grown into a passion-driven venture, rooted in tradition and inspired by possibility.

Shikha Organics stands for thoughtful food, women's empowerment, and respect for the land. It is my way of honouring our farm, our family, and the incredible women who walk this journey with me—creating food that is authentic, purposeful, and made with heart.
